When shooting night landscape

Ai He at night, Kaoshiung
Equipment: For landscape work, you would want a wide angle lens in order to fit more into the frame. In this case, the focal length will be your first priority consideration, not the maximum aperture of the lens. Click here for some of my favourite lenses for landscape work. Another piece of essential equipment is of course a sturdy tripod. This will ensure that your image will be tack sharp, especially at night.

Skills: Mount your camera on a tripod. On you camera, turn the mode dial to aperture priority (A or Av). This will allow you to adjust the aperture manually, but all the others in auto. Set the f-stop to f/11 to f/16. With a small aperture, you can get a large depth of field (DOF), meaning you will get lots in focus. According to your location, use ISO of 100 to 200 during daytime, and ISO of 200 to 400 during nighttime. Careful! Every camera behaves differently in ISO values. Too high an ISO value may result in a lot of noise!
